Rembrandt was one of the Dutch Masters, known for painting images showing the depths of humanity. A true master artist, Rembrandt produced more than 600 paintings, 300 etchings and 2000 drawings during his lifetime of 60 years. From the 1620s to the year of his death, Rembrandt painted over 100 self-portraits, offering us more than a glimpse into his world. His paintings are characterized by deep colours and bold imagery. In addition to Biblical illustrations, landscapes and portraits, Rembrandt also captured scenes of everyday life. Some of his most beautiful compositions depict the early decline of his wife Saskia.
