Our Pick: BBC - Victorians

The site will help children:

  • see how attitudes towards children changed during the Victorian period
  • Provide scenarios that allow pupils to develop their understanding of how children lived at that time
  • Let pupils examine artefacts and documents of the period
  • Encourage pupils to select appropriate material and present it in a way that shows their understanding of the Victorian period

  • The royal lifestyle

  • Children at work inside a Victorian factory. What did the children do and what problems did they face?
  • Children at school. The chance to be part of a Victorian classroom and to do some of the lessons.

This website reflects and complements the TV programmes - Zig Zag Snapshots and Children of World War Two, but has been designed to be used effectively as a stand alone resource.

The site is easy to use and has many interactive features. It asks the key question - What was it like for children in World War Two? The content is divided into three main areas: Home Life, Rationing and Evacuation.

Using a wide range of ICT skills, pupils can go on an interactive shopping expedition, view and click on images of archival sources, and search for different sources using a simple database.

The website is called A Walk Through Time Website. It is an exciting website for 7 - 9 year olds. You can explore streets, people and houses through history. Discover life during Roman, Viking, Tudor and Victorian times and the 1950's. Compare and contrast these periods of history through games and activities.
