Greek character
The Ancient Greek Civilisation is generally regarded to have lasted from 800 BC to about 300 BC, when the Romans took over as the dominant civilisation. This was a period of history when topics like literature, philosophy, and visual arts were unequalled.
During the archaic period of the Greek civilisation, which is pre 600 BC, the Greeks colonised the areas shown as the orange areas on the map. However, in a large part due to the battles of Alexander the Great, Greece expanded it's frontiers to the East, as shown by the purple areas on the map. Click here to see the maps.
