The Ancient Greek Civilisation is generally
regarded to have lasted from 800 BC to about 300
BC, when the Romans took over as the dominant
civilisation. This was a period of history when
topics like literature, philosophy, and visual
arts were unequalled.
During the archaic period of
the Greek civilisation, which is pre 600 BC,
the Greeks colonised the areas shown as the
orange areas on the
map. However, in a large part due to the
battles of Alexander the Great, Greece expanded
it's frontiers to the East, as shown by the
purple areas
