Our counting system is based on
groups of 10.
Numbers under 10, we call units.
When
we reach 10 and more, we count how many groups of 10
there are, and what is left over will be our
units.
If we have 10 groups of 10, we call that a
hundred.
In the Deans counting system, we have a little
cube to represent a unit. We have a rod the same length
as 10
units, to represent the number 10, and we have
large squares the
same size as 10 rods side by side to represent
the number 100.
If we have 2 large squares, 3 rods and
6 small cubes, this would represent the number 236. as
displayed below.
