Albert Einstein
Albert
Einstein was born in Germany in 1879, however when his fathers
business failed, the family moved to Italy. He had hoped
to join his father in the new business, but Albert had moved
schools so many times, that to begin with, he failed to
get into university to study electrical engineering. Eventually,
after more years at school, he did succeed in getting in
to university where he studied mathematics and physics.
He worked for 7 years in a patent office in Switzerland, but at the same time, he was writing down many of his ideas on theoretical physics.
He eventually became a professor in theoretical physics at a university in Germany.
Theoretical physics deals with things that we can only think about, but not test out in any way. He thought a lot about light and what speed it travels, and also about the mass of objects when they travel at the speed of light.
His thought that everyone remembers him best for, was this; the total energy of everything is it's mass multiplied by the speed of light squared.
This is usually shortened to the equation
Even today, no one has proved Einstein wrong, in fact, the more discoveries we make, the more likely he is to have been right.
