Within this section, everyday materials are compared and some of their properties examined. This area of science looks at some of the properties of everyday materials.
We look at how hard or soft something is, how well it bends, how strong it is, does it break, can it conduct electricity, do magnets attract it?
We compare materials that look similar to find if they have the same properties as each other.

We also wonder where these materials would be best used: for example would we want to
use wood to make windows? Or use metal to make car tyres?

We also discuss what things look like and feel and we test the permeability.

We look at the differences between solids, liquids and gases, and demonstrate them.
